President Tinubu Should Avoid Ending Up Like Saddam Hussein and Gaddafi — So Should Nigeria

I didn’t vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but let me be clear: I do not support any invasion of Nigeria — absolutely not! We’ve seen this movie before. The same script was used by America in Iraq — and where are Iraq and its leaders today? The same playbook was applied in Libya — and where are Libya and its leaders now?
Nigeria would gain nothing from such an invasion. Never!

That said, can supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu explain why, over the past two years, he has seemingly avoided President Donald Trump? Why? I know President Tinubu to be a politically astute strategist — someone capable of playing the complex chess game of politics. So how did he end up in this diplomatic quagmire? A politician of his caliber shouldn’t be in such a position. Even the Chinese maintain open diplomatic channels with the White House.
So, who exactly are the key diplomats currently engaging with the White House since Trump’s return to power? Who?

Meanwhile, Christians are being killed in alarming numbers daily — and it must stop! But so are Muslims. Still, the scale of the killings has reached near-genocidal proportions. There is a massive invasion of Nigeria by Islamic extremists. Here in America, even predominantly white churches pray every Sunday for Nigerian Christians — this is no joke to Americans.
What has worsened the situation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the Muslim–Muslim ticket. Which I warned against and all of you were witness to this!

Even Muhammadu Buhari, who was seen as more sympathetic to Palestine, maintained a neutral stance on the Israel–Palestine conflict. Yet, the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration is now perceived as taking sides — an unwise move. Do I believe PBAT supports the Christian genocide in Nigeria? The answer is a resounding NO.
But this isn’t about truth — it’s about perception, and perception is often stronger than reality.

There is a clear agenda by Western powers to divide Nigeria, and I believe their true motive is our mineral wealth. Nigeria is one of the most mineral-rich nations in the world. Are you aware of the vast deposits in Borno State and other northern regions that have suffered years of conflict?

When I visited Maiduguri in 2019 to give back to the community where I was born, I was shocked to see more helicopters at the Maiduguri airport than I had ever seen at Lagos International Airport.

A former Chief of Defence Staff once stated publicly—in Western media—that Boko Haram was backed by the West. The 2015 elections marked the point when Western powers were ready to destabilize Nigeria. President Goodluck Jonathan’s actions at that time gave us a second chance, and that is why he will always remain in my good books.

Western nations are desperate about Nigeria because whoever controls Nigeria controls Africa. Personally, I would rather see Nigeria partner with America than with any other world power. That is why I expected President Tinubu to have built ties with President Trump long before now. To only seek that relationship after a coup plot and threats of invasion is to come to the negotiation table in a position of weakness.

It is time to end these killings. I appeal to President Tinubu to muster the courage to act decisively. The promise of a second term offered by political actors sympathetic to terrorists is not worth the destruction of our nation. Nigeria may not survive if we fail to stop the bloodshed now.

I pray that God will heal Nigeria and grant our political leaders the courage to make bold decisions. Finally, Mr. President, please consult your predecessors and Christian leaders who have influence in Washington. A true leader is a servant—not a boss or an emperor.

I wish Nigeria the very best, but we must act swiftly.

Dr. Stephen Akintayo
