Oyebanji Emphasizes Strategic Road Infrastructure for Economic Growth, Tourism, and Rural Prosperity in Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has underscored his administration’s dedication to purposeful infrastructure, asserting that all road initiatives are deliberately chosen to boost commercial activities, enhance tourism potential, and foster economic vitality in rural areas.
This statement came during the inauguration of the newly completed Igbara-Odo/Ikogosi Road on Monday, an event led by ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose as part of celebrations for the third year of Oyebanji’s leadership.
The governor highlighted the road’s role in connecting Ekiti Southwest and Ekiti West local government areas, aimed at broadening livelihood options for locals, easing movement between towns, and improving connectivity to key attractions like the Ikogosi Warm Springs and Arinta Waterfall.
“We prioritize initiatives that deliver tangible benefits, not just visual appeal. Each road built under this government must facilitate trade, accessibility, and greater prospects for residents,” Oyebanji remarked. “This particular project will bolster our tourism sector while unlocking development potential in surrounding areas, reflecting a governance approach rooted in foresight and impact.”
In response to a request from the Arajaka of Igbara Odo, Oba Edward Jayeola, Oyebanji confirmed that the Igbara-Odo–Bolorunduro Farm Settlement Road, vital for agricultural transport, is included in the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) and will commence construction shortly.
He further urged the communities of Igbara-Odo and Ikogosi to amicably settle their ongoing boundary dispute, revealing that two potential investors interested in setting up tertiary institutions and other ventures have been deterred by the conflict.
“Investment requires stability and harmony. I implore both sides to resolve differences to pave the way for advancement,” the governor appealed.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Fayose praised Oyebanji’s approachable and unifying style of leadership, portraying him as a figure who embodies genuine public service.
“Having observed numerous administrations, Oyebanji distinguishes himself through inclusivity, bridging divides across political affiliations. Projects like this road create the foundation for progress, connecting people and expanding opportunities,” Fayose stated.
He encouraged the governor to sustain his gracious demeanor and build on successes via consensus, reconciliation efforts, and broad-based participation.
“BAO has already earned widespread admiration in Ekiti. The key now is to nurture that bond through continued modesty and accessibility, which define his tenure,” Fayose noted.
Prior to the event, Oba Edward Jayeola hailed the completion of the Igbara-Odo/Ogotun and Ikere/Igbara-Odo roads, along with local electrification efforts, as the realization of long-standing commitments unfulfilled by previous governments.
“These initiatives date back many years but remained unrealized until Governor Oyebanji’s intervention. Initial skepticism gave way to joy as we now travel this route. Igbara-Odo extends profound gratitude,” the monarch said enthusiastically.
He also pointed to additional governmental support, such as upgrades to Igbara-Odo Technical College and the introduction of a new SUBEB secondary school, illustrating a strong focus on education and skill-building.
The monarch observed that the road is already easing traffic in nearby Ikere-Ekiti, with students from Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI) opting for housing in Igbara-Odo due to the reduced travel time of about ten minutes.
“The ‘BAO Effect’ is evident in surging development and restored faith in leadership. Property owners should finalize constructions, and businesses should capitalize on this momentum—Igbara-Odo is primed for growth,” he declared.
