Accountability and Performance: Ekiti North People Are Watching
In a democratic system, leadership is not measured by titles or positions occupied, but by impact, development, and the number of lives positively affected. The people of Ekiti North Senatorial District voted for representation, development, empowerment, and a strong voice at the national level. Therefore, accountability and performance are not optional; they are expected and deserved by the people.
Across the senatorial district, constituents have seen and felt the efforts of some representatives through empowerment programmes, youth support initiatives, training programmes, and constituency projects that directly impact the people. These are the types of programmes that bring governance closer to the grassroots and improve the standard of living of the people. Representation should not be heard only on paper or in Abuja; it should be seen and felt in the communities, towns, and villages across the district.
Many constituents have continued to raise concerns about the level of visible empowerment programmes and constituency interventions at the senatorial level in Ekiti North. The people expect regular empowerment for youths, women, farmers, artisans, and small business owners. They expect scholarships for students, job opportunities for graduates, support for traders and farmers, and federal projects such as road construction, school renovations, hospital upgrades, electricity projects, and water projects. These are the real dividends of democracy that people expect from their leaders.
Sponsoring bills is part of legislative responsibility, but in Nigeria’s political system, that alone is not enough to measure performance. Constituents measure performance through visible projects, empowerment programmes, and direct impact on the lives of the people. With the resources, connections, and opportunities available at the federal level, the people expect more visible development and empowerment across Ekiti North Senatorial District.
This is not about personal attacks or political rivalry; it is about development, accountability, and responsible leadership. The people have the right to ask questions, and leaders have the responsibility to provide answers through their performance and achievements. Democracy works best when leaders are accountable to the people and when the people can clearly see the impact of governance in their daily lives.
Ekiti North is full of hardworking people, educated youths, farmers, traders, and artisans who need support and opportunities to grow. The senatorial district cannot afford slow development or lack of visible federal presence. The people want to see projects, empowerment programmes, opportunities, and development that will move Ekiti North forward.
The message remains clear: leadership must be accountable, performance must be visible, and representation must bring development to the people. The people of Ekiti North are watching, and they deserve to see the true dividends of democracy.
