Power Rotation and Fairness Demand That Ikole Produces the Next Senator in Ekiti North Senatorial District

Since the return of democracy in 1999, the Ekiti North Senatorial District has been represented by senators from different local governments across the district. However, a careful look at the political history and distribution of the senatorial seat shows a clear imbalance in representation. For the sake of fairness, equity, and political balance, it is only right that Ikole Local Government should produce the next senator.

Senators Representing Ekiti North Since 1999

Joseph Olatunji Ajayi – 1999–2003 (Moba)

James Kolawole – 2003–2007 (Moba)

Ayo Arise – 2007–2011 (Oye)

Olubunmi Adetunmbi – 2011–2015 (Ido/Osi)

Duro Faseyi – 2015–2019 (Ilejemeje)

Olubunmi Adetunmbi – 2019–2023 (Ido/Osi)

Cyril Fasuyi – 2023–2027 (Ido/Osi)

Political Imbalance in the District

Looking at the distribution:

Moba – 8 years

Oye – 4 years

Ilejemeje – 4 years

Ido/Osi – 12 years and still counting

Ikole – 0 years

This clearly shows that Ikole Local Government has not been given the opportunity to represent the district at the Senate since 1999, despite being one of the largest and most politically active local governments in the district.

Why Ikole Should Produce the Next Senator

Equity and Fairness

Politics should be about fairness and equal opportunity. Every local government in Ekiti North should have a sense of belonging, and allowing Ikole to produce the next senator will correct the long-standing imbalance.

Unity and Political Stability

When political offices rotate fairly among local governments, it promotes unity, peace, and cooperation within the district. Supporting Ikole will strengthen political harmony in Ekiti North.

Recognition of Ikole’s Contribution

Ikole people have consistently supported candidates from other local governments in past elections. It is now fair for other local governments to support Ikole in the spirit of fairness and mutual respect.

End of Marginalization

For over 25 years of democracy, Ikole has not produced a senator. The next senatorial election presents an opportunity to correct this imbalance and ensure fairness for all.

Conclusion

The call for Ikole to produce the next senator is not based on personal interest, political party, or sentiment. It is based on justice, fairness, equity, and balanced political representation in Ekiti North Senatorial District.

The time has come for leaders, stakeholders, youths, and the entire people of Ekiti North to support Ikole Local Government to produce the next senator for the sake of fairness, unity, and political balance.
