Ekiti Government Unveils Strategic Plan Ahead of Wet Season to Boost Food Security

The Ekiti State Government has declared its readiness for the forthcoming wet planting season, rolling out key strategies aimed at enhancing food production, ensuring availability, and stabilising prices across the state.

The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Boluwade Ebenezer, made this known during an appearance on NTA Ado-Ekiti’s Weekend Diary programme on Saturday. He stated that the state is fully prepared and has put in place forward-thinking measures to drive agricultural productivity and guarantee a steady food supply throughout the year.

According to the commissioner, Ekiti has moved beyond traditional seasonal farming by embracing all-season agricultural practices. This transition is being powered by the introduction of modular, solar-powered irrigation systems deployed across major food production centres, including Ose, Aramoko, Ikere, and Ado-Ekiti.

He explained that the initiative is designed to sustain farming activities year-round, thereby increasing output and reducing the risks associated with seasonal farming patterns.

Boluwade also highlighted the success of the Ounje Ekiti Retail Outlets, describing them as a vital intervention in improving food accessibility and affordability for residents. He noted that the programme has played a significant role in easing the impact of rising food prices while ensuring that essential commodities remain within reach of the populace.

He further revealed plans to expand the initiative with the establishment of additional outlets in major towns across the state, starting with Ikere-Ekiti, to complement the existing centres at Oke Ori Omi and Agric Olope in Ado-Ekiti.

Speaking on the broader agricultural vision of the state, he commended the administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for implementing policies targeted at reducing food inflation and supporting local farmers.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening agricultural value chains, achieving food sufficiency, and promoting sustainable economic growth across Ekiti State.
