SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT: A TRACK RECORD OF ACTIVE LEGISLATION AND IMPACT

It is both surprising and misleading to hear claims that I moved only one motion during my time in the House of Representatives. The facts, however, clearly tell a different story—one of active participation, legislative depth, and unwavering commitment to national development.

Between 2011 and 2013, I consistently contributed to critical national conversations through well-thought-out motions, bills, and interventions that addressed pressing issues across governance, economy, security, and public accountability.

On March 7, 2012, I moved a motion calling for a forensic review of Nigeria’s relationship with South Africa, particularly focusing on our economic interests and the diplomatic concerns surrounding the denial of entry to 125 Nigerians. This was a bold step toward protecting national dignity and economic equity.

Shortly after, on March 19, 2012, I advanced another motion emphasizing the need to strengthen the resolutions of the House to ensure they deliver maximum impact, reinforcing the effectiveness of legislative decisions.

On March 20, 2012, I played a key role in the Capital Market Investigative Hearing—an exercise crucial to restoring confidence and transparency in Nigeria’s financial sector.

Recognizing the importance of security in democratic processes, I moved a motion on July 14, 2012, advocating for the deployment of 3,500 soldiers to Edo State ahead of the gubernatorial elections, aimed at ensuring peace and electoral integrity.

My legislative contributions also extended to economic accountability. On October 11, 2012, I addressed the critical issue of outstanding debts owed to AMCON, specifically involving Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited and Forte Oil Plc, amounting to over N140 billion—demonstrating my commitment to fiscal responsibility and financial discipline.

In response to alarming governance lapses, I moved a motion on November 28, 2012, highlighting shocking revelations of non-remittance of statutory revenues due to government coffers—an issue central to transparency and national development.

Equally, on November 7, 2012, I called for the urgent removal of disused and unserviceable aircraft littering Nigerian airports, a matter of safety, security, and international standards.

Beyond motions, I sponsored and presented significant legislative proposals. On June 15, 2012, I introduced a Bill for an Act to be known as the Disaster Location Protection Act, aimed at strengthening disaster management frameworks in Nigeria. This was followed by the July 3, 2012 presentation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Amendment Bill, further reinforcing institutional capacity in emergency response.

Additionally, I delivered key speeches on the floor of the House, including my address to the Speaker on June 6, 2012, and a thought-provoking contribution on July 10, 2012, themed “When Purpose is Unknown, Abuse is Inevitable,” reflecting my commitment to principled governance.

My legislative responsibilities also extended to committee work. Within my first two years, I served as a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Capital Market Investigation—one of the most sensitive and impactful assignments at the time. In less than three years, I was entrusted with leadership as Chairman of an Ad Hoc Committee tasked with investigating land racketeering in the Federal Capital Territory—further proof of the confidence reposed in my capacity and integrity.

These are not mere claims—they are verifiable records of service.

Therefore, any suggestion that my legislative contribution was limited to a single motion is not only inaccurate but dismissive of a robust and impactful record. My time in the House was defined by diligence, courage, and a clear commitment to advancing policies and actions that serve the Nigerian people.

The record is clear. The impact is undeniable. The truth speaks for itself.
