COMRADE IDOWU AFUYE SPEAKS ON NATIONAL POLITICS, YOUTH INCLUSION, AND PARTY DEMOCRACY ON RADIO
While live on Adanimogo Radio 107.7 FM, Ido-Ekiti, during the programme “Gbagede Ìlú” anchored by Olabanji Ogunleye, Comrade Idowu Afuye shared candid views on the state of politics in Nigeria and Ekiti State.
In his opening remarks, Comrade Afuye described the current political climate in Nigeria as largely tilted in one direction and not entirely reflective of fairness or balance. He called on the President to rise to the occasion, noting his vast experience as an elder statesman, and urged him to take decisive steps to address the pressing challenges facing the nation. He highlighted key concerns affecting citizens, including the high cost of fuel, rising food prices, insecurity, and the general increase in the cost of living.
Speaking on youth participation in politics, Comrade Afuye expressed optimism about the future, stating that the prospects for young people in Nigerian politics remain bright. However, he emphasized the need for current leaders to create more opportunities for youths to actively participate and contribute to governance. He encouraged young people to step forward, showcase their capabilities, and position themselves for leadership roles. He also commended both the President and the Governor of Ekiti State for appointing youths into various positions, giving them platforms to grow and prove their competence.
On party politics, particularly within the APC, he responded to a question about the party’s future by noting that no one can predict its lifespan. However, he stressed the importance of strengthening internal democracy within the party. He urged party leaders to uphold fairness, transparency, and due process, while cautioning against practices such as imposition and “kangaroo endorsements.”
Comrade Afuye’s appearance offered a thought-provoking perspective on governance, youth inclusion, and the need for reforms within political structures, reinforcing the call for a more inclusive and accountable political system.
