Grief and Joy Intertwine at Graveside as Comrade Idowu Afuye Lays Father, Pa Adedayo Samuel Ayeni, to Rest in Ode-Ekiti

Ode-Ekiti, Ekiti State – Thursday, April 24, 2026

A solemn atmosphere enveloped the ancient town of Ode-Ekiti today as emotions of grief and thanksgiving converged at the family cemetery where Comrade Idowu Afuye, CEO of ISAPOL Consultancy Information Communication Firm, committed the remains of his beloved father, Late Pa Adedayo Samuel Ayeni, to mother earth.

The burial, which took place on Thursday, April 24, 2026, marked the culmination of funeral obsequies that began with a well-attended wake keep the previous evening. Despite the sorrow of physical separation, the ceremony was equally defined by joy and celebration of a life described by many as “impactful, disciplined, and worthy of emulation.”

Funeral Service: A Celebration of Legacy

The day’s proceedings commenced with a Christian funeral service at St. John’s Anglican Church, Ode-Ekiti, where clergy, family, and sympathizers gathered to pay their final respects. In his sermon, the officiating minister, Ven. , drew from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, admonishing the congregation not to grieve “as those without hope” but to take solace in the Christian assurance of resurrection.[Name]

“Pa Adedayo Samuel Ayeni was not just a father to his biological children, but a father to this community. He lived for God, for family, and for humanity. Today we do not mourn death; we celebrate a transition into glory,” the cleric declared.

The church was filled to capacity, with hymns of hope rendered by the choir as tears flowed freely from family members and associates who recalled the deceased’s virtues of honesty, hard work, and community service.

Journey to the Graveside: Tears, Tributes, and Thanksgiving

Following the church service, a long motorcade accompanied the casket to the Afuye family compound for lying-in-state, before proceeding to the final resting place. The procession through Ode-Ekiti drew residents who lined the streets, many clad in white and traditional _aso ebi_, to bid farewell to a man they called “Baba rere”—a good father.

At the graveside, Comrade Idowu Afuye, supported by siblings, children of the deceased, and extended family, struggled to hold back tears as he performed the dust-to-dust rites. In an emotional tribute, he said:

“My father, Pa Adedayo Samuel Ayeni, was my first mentor, my compass, and my greatest teacher. He taught us that integrity is the currency that never loses value. Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted because he lived a fulfilled life and left us a name better than silver and gold. Baba, sleep on till we meet to part no more.”

Dignitaries and Sympathizers Pay Last Respects

The burial attracted a formidable assembly of political leaders, business associates, media professionals, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders from across Ekiti State. Notable among them were chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), youth and women groups, representatives of professional bodies, and members of the Ekiti State Council of Elders.

Traditional rulers from Gbonyin Local Government Area offered royal prayers, pouring libation according to custom to bid the departed elder a peaceful journey to his ancestors. Cultural groups performed farewell dirges, underscoring the Ekiti tradition of honouring the aged.

A Life Remembered: Pa Adedayo Samuel Ayeni’s Enduring Footprints

Though advanced in age, Pa Adedayo Samuel Ayeni was remembered as a man of uncommon wisdom and industry. Until his passing, he was a respected community elder, devout Christian, and farmer whose counsel was sought by many. He was credited with instilling discipline and the fear of God in his children, including Comrade Idowu Afuye, whose rise in strategic communication and politics is traced to the values imparted by his late father.

_“Baba was a man of few words but deep action. He believed in education, in community, and in leaving a place better than you met it. That is the legacy we have inherited,”_ a family member noted.

Comrade Afuye Expresses Gratitude

Speaking on behalf of the family, Comrade Idowu Afuye expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Ekiti State, political leaders, traditional institutions, the clergy, and the entire Ode-Ekiti community for standing by them throughout the period of grief.

“From the moment we lost our patriarch, your calls, visits, prayers, and physical presence have been our strength. You have shown us that we are not alone. May God bless you all and may you never experience such sorrow,” he said.

He further announced that thanksgiving service would be held on Sunday at St. John’s Anglican Church to round off the burial activities.

Ode-Ekiti Community Mourns, Yet Celebrates

While the day was heavy with grief, it was also filled with joy—joy for a life well spent, for battles fought and won, and for a legacy that will endure through generations. As the final prayers were said and the grave covered with earth, mourners sang “It Is Well With My Soul”, affirming their faith and acceptance of God’s will.

The burial of Pa Adedayo Samuel Ayeni has once again demonstrated the unity, culture, and communal spirit of Ode-Ekiti people—who gather not only in moments of joy, but also to collectively bear the burden of grief.

Adieu, Pa Adedayo Samuel Ayeni. Your toil on earth is over, your reward in heaven awaits. May your gentle soul find eternal rest in the bosom of the Lord. Amen.

COMRADE IDOWU Afuye Idowu
