As I Commence My Ward Tour
Today, I step onto the soil of Oye/Ikole North not as a visitor, but as a daughter returning home — a daughter ready to listen, to learn, and to serve. This ward tour is not a procession of promises; it is a renewal of commitment. It is my extended hand to you in a social contract built not on paper, but on trust, presence, and truth. I have not come to speak over you, but to sit with you.
For too long, leadership has been defined by distance — a wide gap between the elected and the electorate. That distance ends now. I am here in your markets, your farms, your places of worship, and your town squares because true governance begins with presence. I want to see the roads that fail you in the rains, the classrooms where our children learn under leaking roofs, and the health centres where hope waits without medicine. Problems unseen cannot be solved — and I have come to see.
This tour is my covenant to understand, not assume. Abuja cannot know Oye/Ikole North better than its own people. That is why I have come — to hear directly from you. Tell me where it hurts. Show me what has been abandoned. Share the efforts you began when no help came. Your voices will not pass through filters; they will reach me directly and rest on my conscience.
I do not claim to have a magic wand. But I carry a deep resolve — a commitment forged by duty, strengthened by accountability, and guided by empathy. As a mother knows the urgency of a child’s cry in the night, so do I understand that your needs cannot wait. When I speak of clean water in Ayede, accessible roads in Itaji, jobs for our graduates in Oye, and fair returns for our farmers, I do so with a firm sense of responsibility. I will stand between you and neglect, and I will not waver.
A true social contract requires both sides. My pledge is to work, to advocate, and to represent tirelessly. Yours is to speak truthfully, to participate actively, and to hold me accountable. Do not applaud me today if you cannot question me tomorrow. I stand not above you, but with you. And this tour is the first step — I have shown up.
I have heard it said that leaders appear only when elections draw near. But I am here because your needs are present now. The woman who walks miles for water feels it today. The farmer whose produce cannot reach the market feels it today. The graduate searching for opportunity feels it today. And so, I am here today.
From Oye to Imojo, from Ayede to Itaji, from Isan to Ilafon — every ward matters, every voice counts. I will not skip any part of our shared story. Where necessary, I will stay, I will walk your paths, and I will sit with you — because real solutions come from real understanding. Presence is the foundation of policy.
To our elders, I bring respect and tradition. To the youth, I offer attention and energy. To the women, I extend solidarity, knowing that empowering women strengthens entire communities. To our traditional rulers, I pay homage — for no development can stand without honouring our heritage.
When I leave each ward, I will not carry your applause — I will carry your concerns. Your words will become my assignment, my advocacy, and my voice in Abuja. And when I return, it will not be with empty words, but with updates, progress, and renewed dialogue. That is our agreement: I listen, I act, I report, and I return.
So receive me not as a dignitary, but as your neighbour entrusted with responsibility. Open your homes, your concerns, and your ideas.
The future we desire for Oye/Ikole North will not be built by one person alone. It will be achieved because we entered into this social contract together — and honoured it together.
I am here. I am listening.
I have taken up the responsibility. Let the work begin.
