EKITI STATE GOVERNMENT ADVISES CALM AS EKSWAMA PUTS OUT RAGING FIRE AT DUMPSITE
The Ekiti State Waste Management Agency has successfully put out a fire that broke out at the Ilokun Dump Site in Ado Ekiti. The agency’s Director-General, Sunkanmi Onipede, confirmed that firefighters were mobilized to the site and the fire was brought under control without any reported damage.
The fire was reportedly caused by heat generated from waste materials at the dump site, a common occurrence during dry seasons. Residents were asked to remain calm as the agency worked to extinguish the fire. ¹
This incident highlights the importance of proper waste management practices. The Ilokun Dump Site has been a concern due to environmental and health risks associated with waste disposal. Studies have shown that the site poses pollution risks to soil and groundwater, with high levels of heavy metals and anions detected. ² ³ ⁴
