CHIEF SEGUN AJIBULU: A LIFE OF SERVICE, PHILANTHROPY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Chief Segun Ajibulu was born in Oyin Akoko, Ondo State, into the family of Pastor and Deaconess Ajibulu of Ipao Ekiti, while his maternal lineage traces back to the Adeyale family of the Oyiyo ruling house in Ijero Ekiti. His early education took him across several states in the Southwest, attending Baptist Primary School in Oyin Akoko, Ijaye Baptist Primary School in Abeokuta, and Ifosan Baptist Primary School in Ilesa. He later attended Ekiti Baptist High School, Igede Ekiti, and Doherty Memorial Grammar School, Ijero Ekiti for his secondary education.
After completing his secondary education, he briefly worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Victoria Island, Lagos, as a Floor Manager before traveling abroad to further his studies.
INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL CAREER
In 1978, Chief Ajibulu proceeded to Vienna, Austria, where he studied Textile Technology at the Federal Higher Technical College for Textile Industries and graduated in 1983. His quest for academic and professional development later took him to the United States of America, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Business and Public Administration from South Eastern University, Washington DC, graduating with honours. He also attended several professional seminars and training programmes to strengthen his career in administration, finance, and public service.
During his professional career in the United States, he worked with several government agencies and institutions, including Defence Mapping Federal Credit Union, the New York Department of Human Services, and Wake County Department of Human Services in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he managed the Economic Self-Sufficiency Programme. In 2001, he established his own tax practice known as Mr. S. Tax Services, which later expanded into Sought-Out Financial Services Inc., becoming one of the largest individually owned tax service companies in North Carolina at the time.
POLITICAL AND DIASPORA ACTIVITIES
Chief Ajibulu has been actively involved in political and democratic movements, particularly among Nigerians in the diaspora. In the early 1990s, he served as Diaspora Co-Coordinator for the Olu Falae presidential campaign. He also founded and co-founded several Nigerian political and democratic associations abroad, including the Nigerian Patriotic Association, Nigerian Democratic Awareness Committee, and Nigerian Democratic Movement, all advocating democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
He was also deeply involved in Yoruba and Ekiti diaspora associations. He was a co-founder of Egbe Omo Yoruba in North America and held leadership roles in several Ekiti associations abroad. Notably, he became the first inaugural Vice President of Ekiti Kete International Association, an umbrella body for Ekiti associations and individuals in the diaspora. He also served as President of Ekiti Parapo of North Carolina for several years, demonstrating his commitment to Ekiti development both at home and abroad.
PUBLIC SERVICE AND TRADITIONAL TITLES
Chief Ajibulu later returned home to serve Ekiti State when he was appointed Commissioner at the Ekiti State Pension Commission during the first administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi. His contributions to community development and leadership earned him several traditional chieftaincy titles across Ekiti communities, including Atayese of Ipao Ekiti, Bobagunwa of Odo-Oro Ekiti, Bobatolu of Esun Ekiti, and Atuluse of Irele Ekiti
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria and was recognised by Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide for exemplary leadership and professional achievement.
PHILANTROPY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Chief Segun Ajibulu is widely known for his philanthropic activities, particularly through the Segun Ajibulu Foundation, which has been supporting communities for over three decades. Through the foundation, scholarships, educational materials, food items, clothing, and financial assistance have been provided to widows, the elderly, students, and other vulnerable groups.
In one of the foundation’s major community outreach programmes held in Ipao Ekiti, over 2,000 people across ten communities in Ikole Local Government benefited from food items and cash gifts worth over N30 million. The programme, which has been sustained for over 34 years, was established in memory of his late father and has grown into a major annual intervention programme supporting the less privileged.
COMMITMENT TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Chief Ajibulu has continued to contribute to national discourse, particularly in economic and tax policy matters. He has consistently advocated tax reforms, accountability, and improved fiscal management in Nigeria, while also emphasizing policies that protect low-income earners and vulnerable citizens.
PERSONAL LIFE
Chief Segun Ajibulu is a devoted family man, married and blessed with children. He remains committed to community development, philanthropy, leadership, and public service, both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.
