ONE DISTRICT, EQUAL OPPORTUNITY: IKOLE MUST NOT BE LEFT OUT
Since the return of democratic governance in 1999, Ekiti North Senatorial District has witnessed a commendable rotation of leadership among its constituent local governments. This has helped to promote inclusiveness, balance, and a sense of belonging across the district. However, a critical look at the trajectory of representation reveals a clear gap—Ikole Local Government, a major stakeholder in the district, has yet to produce a Senator in this democratic dispensation.
From Moba to Oye, Ido/Osi to Ilejemeje, different parts of Ekiti North have had the opportunity to represent the district at the Senate. Notably, Ido/Osi Local Government has produced a Senator multiple times, further underscoring the need for equity and fair rotation. In the spirit of justice, fairness, and political balance, the time has come for Ikole Local Government to take its rightful place.
Ikole is not just another local government; it is one of the largest and most politically significant areas in Ekiti North. It boasts a strong population, a rich history of political participation, and a consistent record of support for progressive leadership within the district and the state at large. Despite this, it has remained on the sidelines when it comes to senatorial representation.
Granting Ikole the opportunity to produce the next Senator would:
• Promote fairness and equity by giving every major bloc a sense of inclusion
• Strengthen unity within the district by addressing long-standing feelings of marginalization
• Encourage broader political participation, knowing that every zone has a realistic chance of representation
• Deepen democratic values by upholding the unwritten principle of rotation and balance
Furthermore, Ikole is blessed with capable, experienced, and visionary leaders who possess the competence to represent Ekiti North effectively at the national level. What is needed now is not capacity, but opportunity.
As the 2027 political horizon approaches, stakeholders, leaders, and the good people of Ekiti North must begin to align with the principles of fairness, justice, and inclusiveness. Supporting Ikole Local Government for the next Senate seat is not just a political decision—it is a moral and strategic one that will foster long-term unity and stability in the district.
The message is clear: for equity, for justice, and for unity—Ikole Local Government should produce the next Senator of Ekiti North.
