SEEDS OF PROSPERITY: EKITI SETS THE STAGE FOR A BUMPER HARVEST SEASON
As the rains draw near, the atmosphere in Ekiti State is charged not with uncertainty, but with confidence and strategic readiness. The state government has declared its full preparedness for the wet planting season, signaling a bold commitment to food security, price stability, and agricultural transformation.
Speaking on NTA Ado-Ekiti’s Weekend Diary programme, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Boluwade Ebenezer, painted a compelling picture of a state that is no longer bound by the limitations of seasonal farming.
According to him, Ekiti has embraced innovation, transitioning into a model of year round food production powered by modern technology.
At the heart of this transformation is the deployment of modular, solar powered irrigation systems across key agricultural hubs, including Ose, Aramoko, Ikere-Ekiti, and Ado-Ekiti. This forward thinking initiative ensures that farmers can cultivate crops beyond the constraints of rainfall, boosting productivity and guaranteeing a steady food supply throughout the year.
Beyond production, the government is also tackling food accessibility and affordability through the impactful Ounje Ekiti Retail Outlets. This initiative has become a lifeline for many residents, easing the pressure of rising food costs while improving access to essential commodities. Plans are already underway to expand the programme, with new outlets set to open in major towns, starting with Ikere Ekiti, complementing existing locations in Ado Ekiti.
The broader agricultural vision of the administration of Biodun Oyebanji continues to gain momentum. Through deliberate policies and sustained support for local farmers, the government is actively curbing food inflation and strengthening the agricultural value chain.
What is unfolding in Ekiti is more than seasonal preparation it is a calculated revolution in food systems. With innovation as its backbone and leadership as its driving force, the state is not just preparing for the rains; it is cultivating a future of abundance, resilience, and economic growth.
