TWO LIVES LOST, MANY AT RISK: NIGERIAN YOUTH CONGRESS DEMANDS SWIFT JUSTICE OVER EKITI CULT KILLINGS

The Nigerian Youth Congress (Ekiti State Chapter) has strongly condemned the tragic killings of two youths in separate incidents that occurred on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Ekiti State.

According to reports, one of the victims was brutally attacked with machetes around 3:00 PM by suspected cult members, while another was shot dead at the back of Fabian Zone D in a separate incident. These gruesome acts, allegedly carried out by individuals linked to cult groups, have sparked fear and raised serious concerns about the safety of young people across the state.

The Congress described the incidents as barbaric, senseless, and a direct threat to the peace and security that Ekiti State has long been known for. It emphasized that the lives of youths—who represent a vital force for productivity, development, and the future of the state—must be protected at all costs.

“We strongly condemn these heinous killings and the growing threat of cult-related violence. The safety and sanity of our youthful population must not be compromised,” the statement read.

The group called on the Commissioner of Police and all relevant security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the incidents and ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law. It stressed that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done to restore public confidence and deter future occurrences.

The Congress also warned that the rising fear among youths, if not urgently addressed, could hinder their productivity and destabilize the relative peace in the state. It urged security agencies to take decisive action against all individuals and groups posing threats to lives and property.

Reaffirming its stance, the Nigerian Youth Congress strongly denounced cultism and all forms of violent associations. It called on young people across the state to reject and distance themselves from any group or activity that promotes violence, lawlessness, or disrupts societal harmony.

“Ekiti State is known for peace, orderliness, and discipline. We must not allow the actions of a few to destroy the sanctity of our dear state. We urge all stakeholders to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” the statement concluded.

The Congress assured that the youth population remains vigilant and will closely monitor the investigation process to ensure justice is served.
